The Camp Experience
It’s not just a summer job, it’s a life-changing experience
Each year, HKC brings on more than 200 aspiring leaders to augment our year-round staff and deliver the services that makes HKC run: staffing our 17 pools, grounds maintenance and janitorial services.
Whether part of our Aquatics or Maintenance team, each individual on our seasonal work force has a direct impact on the campers who are going through transformative experiences themselves.

Maintenance
Getting to spend the summer outdoors, our maintenance crew are the unsung heroes of camp. Trash collection, basic grounds upkeep and cleaning and stocking bathrooms may not be sexy, but if not done right, it can overshadow all the fun that happens at camp. Campers complain, parents get angry and pull their campers out, and the camps suffer. Our dedicated staff makes sure this doesn’t happen.
As part of maintenance you’ll build hands-on skills in: Basic landscaping, Basic plumbing, Basic carpentry
And soft-skills in: Decision making, Patience, Teamwork, Communication
WE LOVED OUR EMPLOYEES
Here’s what our employees said made their summers memorable
My golf cart got stuck in a muddy area after I stopped to let some campers go by. As I attempted to go on my way and skidded, the kids started cheering me on and once I was out, the campers and counselors all cheered for me.
One of the younger campers that I was teaching was terrified of going in the water above her shoulders. I worked with her every day and little by little we worked on going farther underwater. After a few weeks she was swimming all the way underwater and she was so proud of herself.
A kid in one of my swim instruction classes made for my co-teacher and me goodbye/thank you cards that they gave us on their last day.
I think every day of the summer was memorable! A very fun day was when all the lifeguards and swim instructors played kickball during a break.
Coming in on a Saturday with a few others. We had a lot of fun cleaning out a gross shed while listening to music.
